101: The Botany Series

© 2011, 2005

This series provides a comprehensive introduction to botany, or the biology of plants.  Introduction to Botany Parts I and II cover adaptation of plants to life on land, bryophytes, vascular plants, gymnosperms, angiosperms, structure and growth of seed plants, roots, soil, stems, and leaves, as well as plant movement, nutrition, and the nitrogen cycle.  Photosynthesis presents an intelligible and logical explanation of this difficult but fascinating subject, including atomic and molecular structures, cells, the nature of energy, glucose production and use, ATP, requirements for photosynthesis, sunlight, chlorophyll, carbon dioxide and water, enzymes, process of photosynthesis, light and dark reactions, respiration, and the importance of photosynthesis.  Plant Reproduction examines cell division, mitosis and meiosis, haploid and diploid number of chromosomes, gametes, zygotes, and spores, then moves on to cover the evolution of plant reproduction, beginning with green algae and progressing through mosses, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms.

The information and learning experience provided by the series is supported and enhanced by the engaging presentation of the narrator combined with computer animation, experiments, demonstrations, time-lapse photography and video shot in the field.  A detailed study guide is also provided.
